The LTER Network Information System development team announced the production version of PASTA and the new NIS Data Portal. The system went live on January 11, 2013. Accessible through portal.lternet.edu, PASTA provides a repository for all LTER data, including both metadata and data. As of today, 14 sites have contributed 928 data sets to PASTA. LTER sites plan to upload the majority of their data packages by the end of 2013. The LNO has also made 15,000 EcoTrends and North Inlet data sets available through the Data Portal for use by scientists and researchers worldwide.
Digital object identifier (DOI) information is now available for all publicly accessible data packages stored in PASTA. Updates and bug fixes for PASTA and the NIS Data Portal occur on a weekly basis. A comprehensive list of updates is available in the NIS Software Developer’s Guide under the PASTA Change Log. Members of the development team are also progressing on their work integrating the DataONE Generic Member Node with PASTA.
The LNO development team (Mark, Duane, and James) would like to personally thank the LTER community for contributing to the NIS effort and for providing invaluable feedback and commentary during development. This release is only the beginning - PASTA and the NIS Data Portal will continue to evolve over the coming months to meet the needs of the LTER community. https://portal.lternet.edu/nis/home.jsp
